This is one of the most searched comparisons among beginner traders in Africa. The problem: Exness, Deriv and Quotex don't offer the same thing at all. Confusing them often leads to picking the wrong platform for what you actually want to do — especially if the goal is to automate with an Expert Advisor.
What each platform actually offers
Exness — Forex and CFDs via MetaTrader
Exness is a classic forex/CFD broker: you trade currency pairs, gold, indices, via MetaTrader 4 or 5. It's an open environment: any Expert Advisor built by a third party (including Adestto AI's) can connect and execute orders automatically.
Deriv — Synthetic indices on a proprietary platform
Deriv (formerly Binary.com) offers synthetic indices (Volatility Index, Boom, Crash): algorithmically generated markets available 24/7 including weekends, that only exist on Deriv. These products trade on Deriv's proprietary app — not on MT5. Deriv does offer a separate MT5 account for classic forex/CFDs, but its flagship product (synthetic indices) remains closed to third-party EAs.
Quotex — Simplified binary options
Quotex offers binary options: you bet on price direction (up/down) over a short, pre-set duration, for a fixed gain or loss. It's neither classic forex nor CFDs, and it's not compatible with an Expert Advisor.
The regulatory status of each
- Exness: regulated by several authorities depending on the entity (including the FSCA in South Africa, the FSA in Seychelles) — always check the exact entity your account is opened under.
- Deriv: holds licenses from several regulators (MFSA Malta, VFSC Vanuatu, FSC Mauritius, FSA Labuan) and obtained a CMA license in the UAE in 2025 — but no top-tier license (FCA, ASIC), which limits protections compared to a top-tier regulator.
- Quotex: holds no state financial license, operates under the offshore laws of St. Kitts and Nevis. Its "IFMRRC" badge is a membership in a private dispute-resolution body, not a regulatory authorization. Spanish (CNMV) and Italian (CONSOB) regulators issued warnings in 2021-2022 about potentially illegal activity.
Which to choose based on your goal
- You want to automate with a bot/EA → Exness (or any other MT5-compatible broker listed in our MT5 broker guide). It's the only option of the three.
- You want to trade forex/CFDs manually → Exness or Deriv's MT5 account, checking the regulation of the exact entity.
- You're drawn to Deriv for synthetic indices → understand it's a different product from classic forex, with its own risks, and no third-party EA works on it.
- You're considering Quotex → the level of regulatory protection is markedly lower than the other two; go in with that understood.
Our position
Adestto AI builds Expert Advisors for MetaTrader 5 — our ecosystem therefore assumes an MT5-compatible broker like Exness. We're not a partner or affiliate of any of the three platforms mentioned; the goal here is to clarify what each one actually does before you choose.
