For many French-speaking traders — in the Maghreb and beyond — the swap raises a religious as much as a practical question. That's why most MetaTrader 5 brokers offer an "Islamic" or "swap-free" account. Here's what it really is, no approximations. Adestto AI is a publisher, not an adviser — and certainly not a religious authority.
What is the swap?
The swap (or overnight fee) is interest debited or credited when you hold a position open from one day to the next. It stems from interest-rate differentials between the two currencies of a pair. Because it's interest (riba), it's a problem for traders who follow Islamic finance.
The swap-free account
An Islamic (swap-free) account removes these overnight interests: you can hold a position several days without paying (or receiving) swap. It's the option chosen by many Muslim traders.
Points to check (important)
- Replacement fees: many brokers offset the absence of swap with a fixed commission or administration fees beyond a few days. "Swap-free" doesn't always mean "no carrying cost at all". Read the conditions.
- Eligibility conditions: some brokers limit the Islamic account to certain regions or require activation. Check before opening.
- Instruments concerned: swap-free often applies to Forex and gold; check for indices or crypto.
- Religious compliance remains your responsibility: an "Islamic" label is commercial. For a question of permissibility, consult a competent authority — not a broker, and not us.
Swap-free account and automation
An Expert Advisor works on a swap-free account just like on a standard one. If you swing-trade (positions held several days), swap-free changes the economics of your trades — factor in any replacement fees in your calculation. And as always, no setup guarantees a gain.
The basic reflex
The account type replaces neither method nor risk management. First choose a serious broker, test in demo, keep reasonable leverage, and size your positions with the free calculator.
