Choosing an MT5 broker: regulation, trading conditions, fund safety

To run an EA you need an MT5-compatible broker. Regulation (CIRO and elsewhere), trading conditions, fund safety: the neutral framework to decide for yourself.

To run an Expert Advisor, you need an account with a broker compatible with MetaTrader 5. This choice has a real impact on your experience — and your security. Adestto AI is not a broker; here's a neutral framework to decide for yourself.

First criterion: regulation

This is the non-negotiable point. A broker must be overseen by a serious regulator. In Canada, that falls under CIRO; elsewhere, other authorities exist (depending on your country of residence). Beware opaque offshore brokers: an attractive spread is worthless if your funds aren't protected.

  • Check registration with the relevant regulator.
  • Check fund segregation (your deposits kept separate from the broker's cash).
  • Read reviews, but cautiously — many are biased (affiliation).

Second criterion: trading conditions

  • MT5 and EAs allowed: some brokers limit automation or scalping. Check explicitly.
  • Spreads and commissions: compare the real all-in cost, not just the advertised spread.
  • Execution and slippage: execution quality matters as much as cost.
  • Instruments: does the broker offer the markets you target (Forex, gold, indices)?

Third criterion: the practical stuff

  • Deposit / withdrawal: available methods (card, transfer, mobile money depending on the market), delays, fees.
  • Support: responsive and in your language.
  • Demo account: essential to test an EA before going live.

The safety reflex

Before depositing, start in demo. Test execution, check your EAs run as expected, gauge the support. A good broker has no problem letting you test. And remember: opening an account is your decision and falls under your jurisdiction's rules — Adestto AI publishes content and software, it's neither a broker nor an adviser.

Once your broker is chosen

You'll be able to install an EA, ideally on a VPS for 24/7. To understand what you're installing, read the MT5 bots guide and compare approaches in our comparisons.
